December - 2020CONSTRUCTIONTECHREVIEW.COM6Our climate is changing, and its adverse effects are accelerating, with climate related disasters piling up, season after season. Seas are warming and rising faster, putting more cities at risk of flooding. Glaciers are melting at a pace many researchers did not expect for decades. The amount of Arctic sea ice has declined so swiftly that it will not be long before we may see ice-free summers in the region. Besides, every other day, news about wildfires, tsunamis, earthquakes, droughts, and heavy rainfalls across the globe has become a common phenomenon. In his 2015 State of the Union address, Obama stated that "No challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change." Buildings are one of the leading contributors to climate change due to increased carbon emissions by unadministered fossil fuel used during operations. According to Architecture 2030, nine hundred billion square feet of buildings will be either renovated or newly constructedby the end of 2030. If these buildings continue to be developed and run traditionally, the environmental damage will increase multifold.Thankfully, all is not lost as there is an increased push for the adoption of green initiatives. Several public and private sector organizations are investing in climate action plans with the goal of reducing their environmental footprint. For instance, Smart City initiatives are being undertaken to better manage existing infrastructure with zero waste policies, alternative energy sources, and other sustainable solutions. In this edition of Construction Tech Review, we are including some of the players that transforming the green building landscape with innovative solutions.Let us know your thoughts!Michael Rosario Managing Editoreditor@constructiontechreview.comMoving towards Greener FutureCopyright © 2020 ValleyMedia, Inc.
