July - 2021CONSTRUCTIONTECHREVIEW.COM6There's no doubt that technology is generating a fair amount of disruption in the construction sector. Robotics, Augmented Reality even drones are being deployed in some construction projects. But the major disruptor in the construction sector over the next 10 years could be one of the aged ideas in the industry: modular construction. There are numerous grounds for the expanding appeal of modular construction. Primarily, construction costs are at historic highs, particularly in strong markets. Besides, modular units can be built to meet conventional construction codes less costly. Also, modular construction is the bridging of the factory and the field, depending on manufacturing-style, production systems, and pre-fabricated components that are produced off-site with the least on-site assembly. One of the determining factors of enhanced cost and productivity in modular construction is the advancement of contemporary digital technology. Like IoT devices that are amassing data through sensor technology are accumulated in the cloud and utilized to make data-informed decisions. IoT devices like the SmartWatch, Nest thermostat, and self-driving cars are everywhere and they are only expected to grow in the years ahead. Similarly, the digital twin concept capitalizes on IoT and camera technology to create virtual simulations of physical attributes, including the factory, plant, product, and components. Commonly, these IoT sensors are employed to predict failures, enable remote commissioning and diagnostics, and inform on decision-making related to future products.Building modular is no panacea, however. This is a construction technique particularly suited to projects attributing identical units, such as apartments and hotels. Also, building modular can bring a higher degree of project certainty to some development opportunities and is something to be considered. That said, having an experienced solution partner to oversee the entire process is a wise decision, especially for modular projects. In this edition of Construction Tech Review, we bring you the 10 modular construction solution and service providers that transform the industry. This edition features insightful articles that emphasize on the manifold benefits of using the latest technologies for better results.Let us know your thoughts!Michael Rosario Managing Editoreditor@constructiontechreview.comBringing a Higher Degree of Project CertaintyCopyright © 2021 ValleyMedia, Inc.
