If the right tool doesn’t exist, build it. That is how Highway Software, an all-in-one roadwork contractor management solution, was born.

In 2016, a group of Greek contractors managing dozens of public infrastructure projects hit a wall. No off-the-shelf system could keep up with their work’s pace, complexity and shifting demands. They wanted a simple tech product to manage simultaneous projects across multiple sites, teams and regulatory environments.

So, they designed one.

That practical, in-house fix has grown into a scalable platform that now drives construction operations across Europe, South America, Australia and countries including the U.S. and Greece.

Its phenomenal growth stems from impressed contractors who took it from one job to the next. Others saw it in action and recognised that their frustrations were solved on screen. Scheduling felt intuitive. Document control just worked. Issue tracking and team coordination were tailored. A steep learning curve wasn’t needed because it was not designed in abstraction but built from the ground up by people in the field.

That field-born authenticity remains Highway Software’s defining advantage.

This experience gives them direct exposure to the platform’s development team and a deeper understanding of how client needs shape the product. Weekly leadership meetings led by the UK-based global sales director keep all regional teams aligned on service standards, client feedback and performance goals

“It’s built by contractors, for contractors,” says Andreas Gkikas, CEO. “Every feature addresses a pain point we’ve faced ourselves. That’s why it resonates with people the moment they see it in action.”

Where Construction is Coordinated

The cloud-based platform connects teams, tools and timelines, no matter where work occurs. Each interface is tailored to user roles, making day-to-day tasks faster and more coordinated.

Field crews use the mobile app to track tasks, log materials, report equipment use and update progress by location. Office teams rely on the desktop version to manage schedules, budgets, payroll and compliance. Both sides work from the same data, reducing delays and improving visibility across every job stage.

Subcontractors can update timelines and input data for their part of the work. Clients—government agencies, private developers and institutional owners—can track mapped work zones, monitor live progress and receive detailed handover reports. This transparency speeds up approvals and invoicing, improving cash flow and client communication.

The platform supports industry-standard contract structures, like the bill of quantities. Labour, materials and equipment are tracked in real time, making it easy to calculate job costs, forecast budgets and avoid project overruns. Teams report time savings of up to 15 percent across field and office functions. In many cases, that efficiency translates into a 10- to 15-percent increase in turnover.

Setup is also quick. Teams of up to 150 can go live in under a week. Legacy data from spreadsheets can be imported in standard formats like CSV or XLS. A real-time dashboard shows how many workdays remain before profit thresholds are reached, factoring in expenses, unpaid invoices and projected cash flow. Colour-coded alerts help teams invoice faster, shift workloads more efficiently or secure new projects faster.

Site-level risks are tracked through custom forms, daily evaluations and safety reports, all of which are mobile-ready. By capturing financial, operational and safety metrics in one system, Highway Software helps contractors avoid disruptions and manage uncertainty.

The platform expands beyond the job site. Highway Agora, a built-in global marketplace, connects contractors with equipment, services and specialised talent. Highway Lounge, a private networking space on the platform, allows users to share expertise and join industry-wide discussions, providing access to resources and knowledge that strengthen every project stage.

Scalable Software. Personalised Support.

No two construction firms operate the same way, and the platform is built with that reality in mind. While it delivers a standardised structure and enterprise-grade reliability, its implementation is tailored to each client. Support is part of the platform experience.

Onboarding timelines vary based on organisational scale and complexity, ranging from two weeks to several months. During this period, technical and support teams work alongside client personnel to understand workflows, team roles and operational priorities. The process covers role-based configuration, structured training and access control by permission level. This hands-on approach ensures the platform is configured precisely, not just implemented and handed off. Account managers and support staff stay closely engaged with leadership and field teams, using their experience and practical insight to resolve issues quickly.

Customisation requests are approached with that same experienced contractor’s mindset. The team is able to translate field-level needs into technical changes. When a request falls outside the core system’s scope, a dedicated software instance on a separate server is tailored to the client’s environment.

Behind every client engagement is a globally integrated team trained to deliver consistent, high-quality support. The company’s support and technical teams are based in Greece, the UK and the U.S. Every team member undergoes a unified onboarding process that includes an immersion period at the Athens headquarters.

“This experience gives them direct exposure to the platform’s development team and a deeper understanding of how client needs shape the product. Weekly leadership meetings led by the UK-based global sales director keep all regional teams aligned on service standards, client feedback and performance goals,” says Gkikas.

For clients, this translates into faster responses, more informed guidance and a cohesive support experience no matter where they’re based or who they’re working with.

Results that Scale Without Overhead

One client, a 30-person construction firm with only three engineers, increased its project load from 12 to 40 after adopting the platform. The team did not grow in size, but its capacity did. Greater visibility, faster client approvals and smoother coordination created the bandwidth to scale without stressing resources.

Beyond operational gains, the platform provides a secure foundation. It is undergoing a SOC 2 audit and holds multiple ISO certifications. With enterprise-grade protections and regular system upgrades, it uncompromisingly meets the expectations of small businesses and large contractors.

Its current capabilities tell only part of the story, hinting at the future Highway Software is shaping.

Over the next 18 months, the team plans to launch two major additions; dedicated AI modules and environmental, social and governance monitoring. Both are in active development and will operate across the core platform, extending into Highway Agora, the built-in digital marketplace. This dual integration will give users access to dynamic insights across performance, sustainability and compliance, supporting faster decisions, improved efficiency and better long-term planning.

“We’ve built Highway Software to offer common ground in an industry marked by fragmented systems and regional silos. It’s a system shaped by real experience, designed to grow with your business and made to help contractors across trades, sizes and countries work more clearly and collaboratively,” says Gkikas.

Highway Software is more than a platform. It’s a shared foundation for what comes next.
