Deploying innovative solutions to improve communication boosts productivity for architects, engineers, construction managers, and building owners at each stage of project and building life cycles.
FREMONT, CA: The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), a national association visioned to improve the communication of construction data, unveils CROSSWALK. CROSSWALK augments the design and construction process by allowing construction technology platforms to connect through an Application Programming Interface (API). This platform gives the digital productivity and accuracy tool that gives greater levels of efficiency to each stage of the construction project and building the life cycle to architects, engineers, contractors, and owners.
The API of CROSSWALK connects to and curates versions of CSIs MasterFormat, Uniformat, and OmniClass construction information classifications and standards that span years. Tailored to be used by software providers, information providers, government agencies, academic institutions, BIM object developers, and research firms, CROSSWALK is the digital classification tool for the architecture, engineering, construction, and owner community.

CSI has been at the forefront of managing construction information. The launch of CROSSWALK is a big leap forward in enhancing industry productivity. The construction industry has stepped forward by moving from paper documents to digital workflows. However, project workflow is often fractured by solutions that are incompatible and inefficient, requiring several entries of information, file transfers, and solutions that create error, inefficiency, and expense. CROSSWALK addresses all these challenges.
CROSSWALK can also support Augmented Design through Artificial Intelligence (AI) to use machine learning techniques and anonymized data flowing through the API to create software wizards, crowdsourcing, and reference data. Blockchain-powered trust and transparency is another opportunity, and CROSSWALK uses for the provision of identity, confidentiality, version control, chain-of-custody, and payment services. These innovations can benefit the entire construction industry.
