Designing Energy & Financial Solutions for HVAC Projects

HVAC Financial Visionary

Editor’s Note: HVAC contractors increasingly need to connect technical performance with lifecycle economics as clients weigh capital costs, operating expenses and measurable returns. Sofanor Alarcón R.’s perspective gives construction technology readers a practical lens for presenting project alternatives in financial terms that strengthen decision-making, client alignment and long-term value.

Making ROI the Centre of HVAC Sales

My primary motivation stemmed from observing for many years how HVAC companies try to sell their projects almost solely on price, leading to a true price war that has weakened the finances of companies in the sector.

With Desprosoft HVACopCost@, we have created a path that can help sales representatives show their clients the financial advantages one project can have compared to another and especially how these projects have impressive ROIs and payback periods, making the purchase of a project a potential new revenue stream for end customers.

Balancing Efficiency with Financial Clarity

Due to the large supply of equipment on the market, especially from China, much of this equipment has attractive prices, leading end customers to see it as a low initial investment. However, they often overlook the financial impact on the overall project lifecycle, which, when viewed from a purely financial perspective, often turns out to be the most expensive option in the market.

In the HVAC world, there is no single solution for every type of project. Solutions can vary in their technical application, initial investment and operating costs (energy, maintenance, repairs) over a specific period of their lifecycle.

What makes Desprosoft HVACopCost interesting is that it compares three different types of HVAC projects for the same solution, analyzing each from its initial investment, comfort level, energy consumption and lifecycle cost. It displays the most important financial variables so the end customer can make the best possible decision based on their financial criteria.

Driving Smarter Decisions Through Software

I believe the greatest opportunity lies in conveying to HVAC contractors the importance of financial language for effective communication with their clients. For the end customer, the best technical solution, the highest efficiency or the lowest price for equipment isn't their priority; rather, it's which of the offered solutions is the most financially advantageous for them.

Our software provides this and much more, allowing you to explore different technical project options with the client and work alongside them to find the best financial solution that fits their initial investment and future costs.

  • Clients don't care about the best technical and energy solution because they don't understand it; what matters is the initial investment cost and the operational costs of their investment over the life of their financial project.

Developing a Client-Centered Approach

I believe the most important advice is that they must focus on understanding and speaking the financial language with their clients. Clients don't care about the best technical and energy solution because they don't understand it; what matters is the initial investment cost and the operational costs of their investment over the life of their financial project.

If we achieve this, we can communicate with our end clients more effectively and provide solutions that align with their realities, expectations and the profitability of their original project.

We must remember that end clients don't buy an HVAC system or any other system for that matter, because it's the final project. Our HVAC project is just one part of a larger financial project for our client and it's this larger project that should generate a return on investment over time, with the help of our solution.
