In an increasingly globalized world, mobility must be redefined to solve the transportation problems of tomorrow. One of the ways to manage advanced transportation networks for an ever-growing population and rampant urbanization is establishing efficient traffic planning systems. However, there is a severe shortage of skilled workers who can effectively handle all the technical complexities associated with traffic planning. These constraints compel infrastructure planners to digitalize traffic planning systems using building information modelling (BIM) and successfully optimize them to prevent mobility crises.

We recognize the need to build a fully digital transport infrastructure, which empowers us to help clients intelligently plan roads and railways and better regulate control command and signalling systems using our wide range of practical BIM solutions

ProVI, a leading transport infrastructure design software provider, facilitates the digital planning of traffic routes to help road and railway engineers ensure the smooth completion of all transport infrastructure projects by harnessing intuitive and easy-to-learn BIM software.

“We recognize the need to build a fully digital transport infrastructure, which empowers us to help clients intelligently plan roads and railways and better regulate control command and signalling systems using our wide range of practical BIM solutions,” says Christian Frank, CEO of ProVI.

Diversifying the Use of BIM

Since Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure released a BIM mandate for publicly tendered infrastructure projects in December 2020, ProVI has been addressing this directive with its ecosystem of cutting-edge products comprising ProVI Road, ProVI Rail, and ProVI LST. They enable traffic engineers to digitally plan end-to-end routes with zero errors.

ProVI Road is tailored for road planning, through which users can design guideline-compliant 3D models of roadways in a few simple steps. Based on this model, engineers can design site and elevation plans and even cross-sections while generating mass and visibility calculations.

Simultaneously, ProVI Rail helps engineers expedite all tasks related to railroad planning, from transferring existing data to routing and execution. It combines intuitive operations and ease of learning with a diverse set of functions and can be easily adapted to various project specifications. It is currently the standard routing program at Deutsche Bahn.

While ProVI Road and ProVI Rail take the complexities out of road and railroad planning, ProVI LST helps traffic planners enhance control command and signalling technology.

It enables control command and signalling planners to work in the same database while integrating the data generated with the overall traffic system planner. Planners can draw actionable insights from the data and add new equipment or retrofit.

Due to its shared database, all changes are automatically synced in ProVI LST. Even if planners work in separate databases, they can operate in the ProVI ecosystem and merge their data without changing the interface. It also replaces tabular and drawing-based planning and completely digitalizes it, in strict compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Putting the User in the Driver’s Seat

At ProVI, the spotlight is always on the user, and developers focus on creating intuitive software that allows users to immediately see the effects of their changes. The BIM software’s dialogue-based and uniformly designed program interface guides users through the entire planning process.

Meanwhile, ProVI advocates data storage in project databases to overcome the increasingly complex challenges of today’s infrastructure planning processes. Its project browser provides a clear, hierarchical view of all project data to facilitate the smooth execution of a construction project while allowing multiple users to work on it across locations. This ensures seamless collaboration between planners; a valuable advantage.

In addition, ProVI offers software checks for real-time conformity with the selected guidelines while the design is in progress, making it easy to design rule-compliant axes, gradients, and switches. As an add-on it is compatible with a variety of design and drafting applications, including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil3D, AutoCAD Map3D, and BricsCAD.

Building on Lasting Client Engagements

Apart from its high level of expertise in devising new-age BIM solutions, ProVI is characterized by its long-standing business relationships with customers, which contribute significantly to its success. Whenever ProVI partners with clients, it holds extensive conversations with them to gain a detailed understanding of their requirements.

Since each project has unique characteristics, the technical account team advises prospective customers on finding tailor-made solutions for their challenges.Based on the consultations, ProVI customizes its products to align with their planning requirements at a user level, project level, or companywide.

It also offers ongoing after-sales support on a hotline. Clients are trained by a team member who stays in close contact with them to ensure they stay on top of their requirements.

Client comments, wishes, and suggestions are considered and implemented to create valuable synergies. The software is developed from practical requirements and fed by development collaborations with selected partners and regular customer feedback. Substantiating the efficiency of ProVI’s ground-breaking products is its work with R+R Ingenieure GbR. Specializing in civil engineering and traffic facility construction, they were looking for new planning software that did not require programming. Through a recommendation, they came across the BIM solution that met all their specialized requirements. ProVI also used the client’s feedback to incorporate changes into its software development process, implementing noticeable improvements with each new upgrade.

In another instance, DB Engineering & Consulting, the engineering and consulting company at Deutsche Bahn AG, and a satisfied ProVI customer for many years, approached it for a new control command and signal planning solution. This requirement drove ProVI to develop an advanced solution that was launched as ProVI LST in September 2022.

It assisted them in minimizing errors and costs while automating much of the control command and signalling stage, which enabled the client to significantly speed up the planning process.

Dedicated to providing outstanding infrastructure development solutions with utmost accessibility, ProVI focuses on regularly offering basic and in-depth training to clients with ProVI Academy. Through this module, it guides users on various kinds of content to enable them to effectively use the software. The ProVI Academy trainer team consists of experienced project engineers who arrange individual online training sessions in German or English. Users quickly gain in-depth knowledge of the software operation and work independently with the program’s wide range of possibilities.

Nurturing a Collaborative Workforce

ProVI takes pride in being a young company whose team consists of innovative minds with far-reaching experience in different business domains.

“Our employees, engineers themselves, know-how engineers and planners work, and exchange key ideas with each other to offer the best possible solution for clients,” states Frank.

Backed by an exceptional workforce and unrivalled proprietary technologies, ProVI will continue upgrading its BIM traffic route planning tool for a demanding Central European engineering market. The efficiency gains in planning, execution, and operation using ProVI’s solutions will benefit engineers and transportation infrastructure developers in mapping tomorrow's mobility.
