For any given construction project, there are a number of stakeholders involved—from architects, engineers, and project managers to subcontractors, consultants, workers, and others—that have a say in executing different phases of the building process. Effective communication and collaboration between them is key to ensuring that a project is completed on time and within budget. In other words, in order to excel in today’s construction landscape, collaboration efforts must go beyond just improving task coordination and streamlining checklists to ensuring all parties are working together to achieve a single goal, i.e., delivering a quality structure. Building Information Modelling (BIM) has the ability to enhance the entire construction planning process through team collaboration. It speeds up communication and reduces duplications and errors.

Leveraging BIM, smino, a Swiss firm, has developed a namesake cloud-based collaboration platform that empowers everyone involved in a construction project to have access to all information, plans, and tasks at any time and from anywhere. Sandor Balogh, co-founder, CSO, and co-CEO of smino, says, “With our platform in place, highly complex construction projects are simplified and automated, enabling everyone involved to concentrate on the essentials.”

The platform helps construction managers identify and fix problems prior to it creating lasting damage. Using smino, builders can maintain an overview of their projects at all times with complete and legally secure documentation and information. “One of the complex challenges experienced by project managers is the inability to identify BIM tasks and models quickly. smino generates an automatic task and decision list for its users, thus, eradicating the tedious process of updating the task list from time to time,” adds Balogh.

Using the platform’s global search function, one can find tasks quickly. With the solution’s unique filter and sorting function, project managers can quickly and easily enter tasks and assign them (including images and documents via drag and drop) to appropriate individuals. If necessary, they can also generate a PDF export from it. Besides, AEC professionals can also optimise communication via BIM models with smino. They can easily share display plans and models—down to the smallest detail. With smino, people have access to all information in one place.

What’s more? smino eliminates the need for email communication. “It replaces the email inbox and takes message management to a new level. The platform archives messages in a structured, clear and easy-to-find manner. The tedious search for information and emails is no longer necessary,” explains Silvio Buesser, who serves as smino’s co-founder, CPO, and co-CEO. Another notable aspect of the solution is it’s easy to use and easy to set up functionality; users can easily set up their projects with just a few clicks. smino was developed by construction professionals for construction professionals. “In contrast to our competitors, who use about 20 different tools to solve one problem, we try to pack a lot of features and functionalities in one solution and interconnect them to work well together,” asserts Buesser.

  • “Contractors and project management teams will be able to predict problems before they arise and take the necessary measures. Our primary goal is to prevent our clients from making errors in the first place,”

In the last four years, the company has helped several clients manage an unlimited number of projects, increase efficiency through networking, and reduce their administrative burden, among other benefits. For the near future, the company has a two-fold growth plan. From a geographical viewpoint, smino is looking to expand its services and offerings to other countries. From a technological perspective, smino is planning on implementing AI to its platform to enhance its client’s experiences. “Contractors and project management teams will be able to predict problems before they arise and take the necessary measures. Our primary goal is to prevent our clients from making errors in the first place,” wraps up Balogh.
